Officials in India’s eastern state of Odisha said that a Odisha Train crash on Saturday left at least 36 persons dead and more than 50 injured.
According to the East Coast Railway, the Puri-Haridwar Express derailed at around 11:30 a.m. local time close to the town of Jharsuguda, around 250 kilometers (155 miles) from the state capital Bhubaneswar.
More than 1,000 people were on board the train when it derailed, according to authorities.
Officials reported that rescuers were on the scene(Odisha Train Crash) attempting to release anyone trapped in the debris.
Officials noted that although the exact reason for the disaster is unknown, it may have been due to a track defect or a collision with another train.
Announcing that the government was helping the injured in every way, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered his condolences to the families of the deceased.
A terrible episode, according to Modi’s tweet, was the derailment of the Puri-Haridwar Express. “I send up prayers for the injured and thoughts for the families of those who lost their lives.”
In recent years, there have been several train derailments in India, with this disaster being the most recent.
In 2017, a train derailed in Uttar Pradesh, a state in the north, killing over 100 people.
Additionally, a train derailed in 2016, killing over 90 people in Kerala, a state in the south.
One of the world’s largest and most accident-prone railway networks is that of India.
The government has committed to spending billions of dollars to modernize the rail system and raise safety requirements.
But according to experts, there is still work to be done to prevent accidents.
They claim that the government has to take additional steps to raise the standard of track maintenance, enhance the training of railroad employees, and enact stronger safety standards.
