During a news conference, Mauger highlighted the challenges faced in the Titanic sub missing search operation, which is taking place approximately 900 miles east of Cape Cod and at depths of up to 13,000 feet.

The remote location adds complexity to the task, as it requires searching both the water’s surface and its depths. Despite these difficulties, Mauger emphasized that every available resource is being deployed to locate the vessel and rescue the individuals on board.

OceanGate adviser, David Concannon, informed The Associated Press that the company lost contact with the Titanic sub missing submersible on Sunday morning.

Efforts are underway to swiftly deploy a remotely operated vehicle capable of reaching depths of 20,000 feet, as the Titanic wreckage is estimated to be located at a depth of 12,500 feet.

Among the passengers on board was British businessman Hamish Harding, the chairman of Action Aviation, known for his previous adventure of traveling into space on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket in June last year.

During a dive on Sunday morning, contact was lost with the Titanic sub missing “Titan,” a 21-foot submersible that departed from St. John’s.

The Canadian ship, Polar Prince, which was supporting the submersible, lost communication with it approximately one hour and 45 minutes into the dive, according to a tweet from the Coast Guard.

The submersible is owned by OceanGate Expeditions, a deep-sea exploration company based in Washington.

While smaller and less self-sufficient than military submarines, the submersible is utilized for expeditions to the Titanic wreck site, involving archaeologists, marine biologists, and paying participants known as “mission specialists.”
